Martin Volken, Owner
Martin is the founder and owner of Pro Ski and Mountain Service and Pro Guiding Service and is an IFMGA certified Swiss Mountain Guide. He was born and raised in Switzerland in the village of Stalden outside Zermatt. This is where he received his formal training as a Swiss Mountain Guide. Martin moved to the Seattle area in the late 1980's. He worked as an instructor/examiner for the AMGA ski mountaineering program. Martin guides all facets of mountaineering. He has authored and co-authored several books on backcountry skiing and he was the recipient of the AMGA life time achievement award for mountain guiding in 2016.
Mike, General Manager
Mike started skiing at Snoqualmie Pass in 1978. He's been boot fitting since 2000 and joined the Pro Ski team in 2009. He spent six years building custom skis for his own ski brand called "Shot 5 Skis" and always loves talking technical details about any and all gear. When he's not working, you can find Mike shredding at Alpental, touring around the Snoqualmie Pass valley, or backpacking and hiking around the Cascades during the summer. He also daydreams about getting back to Europe and doing more hut-to-hut trips.
Connor, Assistant Manager
Connor joined the Pro Ski team in 2023. He started his outdoor lifestyle at the age of 2 as a kid in a carrier, and has been running around the woods ever since. These days, you can find him skiing, biking, climbing, fishing, or hunting. Connor loves the mountains of Washington the most, from hiking in the Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, to ski touring around Snoqualmie Pass, to climbing in Northup Canyon. In the future, he's looking forward to spending more time exploring the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River.
Pam, Marketing and Operations
Pam joined the Pro Ski team in October, 2023. Her official job title is "Marketing and Operations Manager," but she wears many hats, including Accounts Payable, Event Coordinator, and IT Help Desk. Pam spent her childhood in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains going hiking with her mom. When she's not working, she spends as much time as possible in the mountains, whether it's rock climbing, snowboarding, or mountaineering. She dreams of traveling to find hidden pow stashes in the Rockies, climbing classic routes in the southwest, and looking down at gleaming alpine lakes from mountain summits.
Jake, Sales Associate
Jake joined the Pro Ski team in March, 2025. Originally hailing from the east coast, Jake started exploring the outdoors in the early 2000's. He learned to ski in the Adirondacks and learned to climb at the Gunks. Now, he loves everything you can find off of Highway 2-- climbing at Index and touring around Yodelin. When in the mountains, Jake's primary objective is simple: to have fun.
Nic, Sales Associate
Nic first started working at Pro Ski in 2018, but you've probably noticed he's been around a lot more since fall 2025. He started skiing in 2006 and added hiking and running to his repertoire in 2010. He also enjoys mountain biking and river rafting in the summers. Nic spends his summers around Snoqualmie Pass and the Alpine Lakes Wilderness and his winters around Snoqualmie Pass and Crystal Mountain. As much as he loves the local stuff, Nic also enjoys shredding in Utah, and is excited to start summiting the Cascade volcanoes.
Matt, Shop Tech
Matt joined the Pro Ski team in 2017. He started backpacking in the Sierras in the early 90's, started snowboarding in 1995, and started rock climbing in 2016. Now, he spends most of his time around Snoqualmie Pass and Mount Baker. In the summer, you can find him hitting the trails for a run or a bike ride, climbing around Washington Pass, or snowboarding at Alpental. Matt has his gaze set on Alaska, where he is eyeing up the Messner Couloir on Denali and the Meteorite at Thompson Pass.
